Electrical Appliances and Equipment
Fires can sometimes be caused by electrical faults, so it’s important to check appliances and equipment regularly, including plugs, sockets, leads, and lighting. Make sure all electrical items have a British or European safety mark, and high-powered appliances, like washing machines, have their own socket.
Any electrical work should be carried out by a registered electrician. You can find approved electricians in your area via the Electrical Safety First website.

E-bikes and E-scooters
Fires involving e-bikes and e-scooters are on the rise. To stay safe:
- Use batteries and chargers that meet UK safety standards and buy from reputable sellers. Do not modify them.
- Unplug chargers as soon as your device is fully charged – never leave it charging overnight.
