Safeguarding
Everyone deserves to feel safe, respected, and secure in their own home. A home should be a place of comfort and stability, but we understand that for some people, this may not always be the case. Experiencing abuse or neglect can be frightening and isolating, and it may feel difficult to know where to turn for help.
That’s why we are here to offer guidance and connect individuals with the right support. If you, or someone you know, may be at risk of harm, there are services and resources available that can provide protection, advice, and care.
What does safeguarding mean?
Safeguarding is about the steps and measures put in place to protect people’s safety, wellbeing and basic rights. It ensures that everyone – especially children, young people and adults who may be more at risk – can live without fear of harm, abuse or neglect.
At MTD, we place the highest importance on safeguarding and are committed to protecting the welfare of our residents at all times.
Where to report a safeguarding concern
If you are worried about the safety or wellbeing of a child, young person, or adult, you should contact your local social services team in the first instance. If you believe someone is in immediate danger, always call 999.
If you are unable to speak during the call, stay on the line and listen carefully to the operator’s instructions. You can make noises such as coughing or tapping to indicate distress. If prompted, press 55 – this will alert the operator that it is a genuine emergency, and you will be connected directly to the police.
For advice or non-emergency safeguarding matters, you can reach out to our Safeguarding team by emailing safeguarding@mtdhousing.co.uk. You can also call us on 01883 770250 between 9:00am and 5:30pm, Monday to Friday. If you call outside these hours with an urgent issue, your call will be automatically transferred to our out-of-hours emergencies team.
Additional help and guidance for those experiencing domestic abuse can also be found here.
